..news archive v.4..
11.22.04 - Results from the Head of the South are posted. I have yet to see a team points tally... if you have, let me know what it was. Have a good Holiday break and get ready for finals. Don't forget to work off that turkey with some steady state! Try running a stadium at your old high school!
11.19.04 - Lots of new photos added to the pictures page - Chattahoochee, more Charles photos and even Chattanooga. Check out the old photos from... the 90's! (how historic!!) Look for Coach Steve on the erg! Also updated are random photos left over from the 2003-2004 season that never made it up on the website. Novices should look through those photos to see pictures of Panama City - where we go to train for spring break.
See everyone at the Tail of the Beaver this Saturday at the river!
11.17.04 - We're still waiting on official results from the Head of the South... but the entire team finished up strong this past weekend in Augusta at our last regatta of the fall season.
Pictures are up from the Head of the Chattahoochee... only from Sportgraphics though, so if you have photos of your own, please let me know. More Chattanooga pictures are up too. I'll be putting up older photos from last season soon, that never made it up.
Have a great winter break and record your workouts to win the Winter Points Competition! Last year's winners were the Novice Men.
Winter Points Competition:
The winter points tally for each squad will begin on December 1st and end on January
10th including January 10th till 6pm. You are responsible for tallying your own points and turning in your points sheet at the first team meeting held on Jan 10th in the CRC building. (Check your email later for time & location). The losing teams will take over one meal cleaning duty at spring break in Panama City. They will also serve one desert to the winning team during the week. Good luck.

11.01.04 - With another weekend of racing in Knoxville done, GT Crew came home with another Team Points trophy!! This year we were able to edge out the Varsity Women's programs to score the most points using both our men and women. Congratulations to all the medalists. See the results here. If you have pictures, please let me know.
Next race, the Head of the Chattahoochee. This is our "home" regatta, so come out and cheer on your favorite crew team at the site of the 1996 Olympics!
10.28.04 - Tech Crew wrapped up racing at the Head of the Charles regatta this past weekend. We had entries in the Women's and Men's collegiate eights, two of the largest events in the regatta. The heavy men's eight took 7th in their event among 45 crews, good enough to earn an automatic berth for next fall's regatta. This represents our best finish ever in Boston and the first time we've had a crew receive an automatic berth for the following year's race. The crew was made up of cox Dana Long, (8) Tim Maryak, (7) Sean McKlusky, (6) Brad Ochs, (5) Steve O'Keefe, (4) Austin Nichols, (3) Sean Fankhauser, (2) Steven Brown, (1) Hunter Driedame.
The women's eight also fared well taking 22nd out of 50 in the women's collegiate eight. The boat was comprised of cox Fran Ruskin, (8) Sarah Schwegman, (7) Lauren Hayden, (6) Kelly Gower, (5) Kristie Ludvigsen, (4) Erin Donahoe, (3) Sarah Paglioni, (2) Stephanie Radbill, and (1) Jane Woodrow. We finished ahead of perennially strong colleges such as FIT, St. Joseph's, and Rhode Island and within a half second of Coast Guard and 2004 NCAA Div. II qualifier, Barry College (FL).
Tech Alumni also made their presence known in Boston. Justin Steigerwalt took 6th in the men's lightweight single, Assistant Varsity coach Steve Georgalis took 26th (in a very tight bunch) in the same event. Josh Vose, rowing in the Men's Championship Double, took 7th along with partner Tim Larson, and the Freshman Women's coaches Cassi Niemann and Anne-Marie Richards took ninth in the Women's lightweight eight with other alumni Shelley Holdren, Suzanna Sayre, Melissa (Deen) Hallow. Alum Joy (Parrot) Smith also rowed in a Club Four with Georgia State, finishing 39th in their event.
Thanks very much to all the alumni who made the trip to Boston to help support Tech Crew! It was great to see so many of you. A very special thanks goes to Craig Armstrong for again making arrangements for us to stay on Thompson's Island and to Craig's dad George, for his tremendous hospitality, especially with navigating the always changing Boston
surface streets.
Next up, Head of the Tennessee this Saturday!
